What HalalScript is
A pharmacist-reviewed reference for what's actually in your medication. We tell you the ingredients, and where we've confirmed it, the source of the animal-derived ones. It's information, sourced and dated, so you can make your own informed choices with the people who advise you.
What we do
We read the ingredients from the FDA label, and we contact manufacturers directly to find out what the label doesn't say: whether a capsule's gelatin is bovine, porcine, or plant, and where other animal-derived ingredients come from. Every finding is attributed to its source and dated. A licensed Texas pharmacist reviews the ingredient information for accuracy.
Two people we point you back to
For anything about your health, your doctor or pharmacist knows your situation and we don't. For whether something is permissible in your faith, a qualified scholar is the right person to ask. We give you the facts to bring to both. We don't make medical decisions or religious rulings, and we present scholarly positions by citing the bodies that hold them.
One thing we ask
If something you read here concerns you, please talk to your provider before changing anything. Don't stop a prescribed medication on your own. The information here is meant to start a good conversation, not replace one.
Keeping it current
Formulations change, and the same drug from different makers can differ, so we date every finding and check it against the current FDA label. When it matters, confirm the exact product with the NDC on your package. If you'd like, we'll email you when a medication you follow is updated.
